The first discovery of gold in the United States occurred in North Carolina in 1799 when twelve-year-old Conrad Reid found a seventeen pound nugget in a creek on his father's farm.

HELP

Welcome to Numismatic Hangman
Present by the Raleigh Coin Club

There are currently 100 words preloaded to guess from!

To start the game click on the "Start Game!" button.

The word to guess will be displayed in the "Display Word" box represented by the correct number of # characters. For example NUMISMATIST would be represented as "###########"

The object of the game is to strategically guess letters sacrificing steps to the gallows along the way. Hopefully, you are successful before the hangman has his way but if not the pop alert will give you the word.

Use the keypad on the screen (your keyboard will not work) to enter your guesses. Your guesses will be shown in the "Used Letters" box. The game does not penalize you for accidentally guessing the same letter twice.

Please note that two word phrases such as "High Relief" or "Matte Proof" will be presented as a hyphenated words. Examples: "High-Relief" and "Matte-Proof"

For die-hard players a scoreboard is provided!

  • Each correctly solved word increments the "Correct" count, decrements the "Words Left" and removes the word from the rotation.
  • Each incorrectly solved word increments the "Incorrect" count but does not remove the word from the rotation. You will see it again!

If you do not know the meaning or numismatic content of the word you can look it up in the link provided below the dashed box game area.

To close this window click on "HELP" again.

Good luck and have fun!
