The opening of the Charlotte Branch Mint did not cause the end of the Bechtler's business but the federal coinage of $1 gold pieces in 1849 finally did.

History of the United States three-cent coins showing all of the coins for circulation along with patterns not made for circulation.

Raleigh Coin Club Collectibles: A Retrospective
The Raleigh Coin Club, an organization of coin, currency, token, medal and even a few stamp collectors has a very diverse range of interests as you have seen in our annual "What We Collect" exhibit as well as other member presented exhibits. Well, over the years in promoting our club and our annual coin show we have created a few collectibles of our own. This exhibit will showcase the wooden nickels, souvenir slabs, counterstamps, first day covers and souvenir cards the club has issued over the years. I guess you could just as easily called this exhibit "What We Created."

This exhibit will examine the early handwritten currency from colonial North Carolina with a focus on a contemporary counterfeit 5 pound note from 1729.

Two Spanish explorers. Balboa in 1513 discovered the isthmus of Panama leading to the Pacific. Columbus in 1493 discovered St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix, landing at Salt River
